Draupadi: The Fire Born Princess – Review and Ratings

Draupadi: The Fire Born Princess – Synopsis

Draupadi: The Fire-Born Princess is written by Saraswati Nagpal which is accumulated with emotions from start to the end. Overall, it was an impactful read.

The biggest highlight of the book is its art which is illustrated by Manu. One of the key features of the book is that it was widely popular among international media as it was reviewed by The New York Journal of Books. The disappointing fact is that it only emphasized some of the bitter facts of the epic story.

Draupadi: The Fire Born Princess – Story – 8.75

Draupadi is a fire born princess of an era when gods and mortals used to walk together on earth. Though her role was key in the biggest battles of the hindurashtra, yet it is very few times we talk about her. Draupadi: The Fire Born Princess is written in the first-person narration where the writer tries to present how would she have felt throughout her journey till the end.

Draupadi’s life was complicated throughout. After falling in love with Arjuna, her fate wedded her to five men – all the Pandavas. She got humiliated by the hands of Kauravas in Royal court and then she must live more than a decade in dark forests. These are just few of the highlights of the terrible life of Draupadi that kept unfolded one by one throughout.

However, I warn those who get easily offended by the adaptations of Indian mythology stories as writer has tried to put words on some circumstances that are not present in religious textbooks. It is clearly written that the story is adapted from the ancient Indian epic Mahabharata. The story speaks about an astonishingly outspoken woman who got neglected at every chapter of her life and as a result she got forced to make the difficult choice between revenge and compassion throughout her life.

Subject – 9

The subject of the story is Draupadi herself. The writer has picked up one of the characters whose life often become hot topics in heated conversations. So was the life of Sita. Though the writer has tried to present what it was like to be Draupadi, yet we feel she left a few events that played an immense role in shaping up the biggest battle of Kurukshetra unchecked.

Pace – 8

It started perfectly yet it loses its pace in the mid. What is good in it is that it focuses on Draupadi for most of the part.

Grip – 9

The story is gripping whether you agree with the narration or not. It glues you till the end.

Impact – 9

The story leaves a long-lasting impact. I suggest you keep your early thoughts and emptions up to you till the end. The ending makes it almost a perfect read. Draupadi – The Fire born princess does not only talks about misery of her life but also talks about the learnings.

Draupadi: The Fire Born Princess – Dialogues – 8

Dialogues are good. Some of the dialogues were quite impactful while some could not justify to the events.

Draupadi: The Fire Born Princess – Artwork and Coloring – 7.5

The line art and cover art are drawn by Manu. This is not his best work, but I can still pick some of the beautifully drawn panels from it. 8/10

The colors are done by Pradeep Sherawat and Vijay Sharma. 7/10

Draupadi: The Fire Born Princess – Graphic Design and Letters – 8o

Graphic design of the book is good. It is like a few other mythological books so nothing new. 8/10
