Odayan – Synopsis

The main protagonist of ODAYAN is a mysterious criminal and vigilante known as ODAYAN. The aarambham and the yuddham is his journey from gathering wealth and alliances to ultimately challenge the reign of the Zamorin (king and the ruling dynasty).

Odayan is graphic novel series that sets a new bar in Indian comic industry in terms of storytelling. The art itself is unbelievably gritty and the greyscale approach adds more intensity to the scenes. There are few shades of colors throughout but mostly on facial highlights of odayan and one of his nemesis.

Suhas Sundar, the man behind the story have made the character of Odayan in such a way that even after finishing two issues, you do not know if he is a good or a bad guy, but you still love it. If you truly want to witness a combination of captivating story and amazing art, you should get your hands on ODAYAN.

Odayan – Story

The premise of the story starts with the history of bhargavakshetram, the land where the current events takes place. It is a land where Parashurama came to abandon his axe with which he killed twenty-one generations of kshatriyas.  He hurled his weapon into the ocean, but the weapon emerged again and gave birth to number of seas and a fertile land which was named bhargavakshetram by Parashurama himself. Parashurama must wield this weapon for rest of his life but when he left, he broke his axe into twenty-one pieces and gave them to the twenty-one masters trained by him. The axe was cursed and so the bhargavakshetram. The odayan seem to be after these pieces but it is yet to be confirmed what is his plan behind that.

Concept

The concept is thrilling and captivating as the history of bhargavakshetram is smartly linked with the Indian mythology without hurting any religious sentiments.

Pace

The story is captivating throughout. You never feel bored as every new character you see seem like a hero of the story. These characters keep you at the edge of your seats to find out what would happen when they meet the central character of the ODAYAN.

Grip

The story is gripping and captivating from start till the end. You will not feel distracted even in a single panel and that is hard feat to achieve. One of the reasons for such an outstanding experience are its strong characters. There are so many strong characters throughout that you keep changing your sides till the end.

This is not writing, this is craftmanship from the writer.

Impact

There is use of several Malayalam words throughout, but they only enhance your reading experience and make you love it more. Some of those words have obvious meaning while meaning of some Malayalam words are given at the bottom of every page where they come.
