The One – Abhimanyu – Review, Ratings and Inside Art

0 0

When we talk about Mahabharata war, there were a couple of warriors who had their own glory, even greater than Pandavas and lord Krishna. Some of these were Bheeshma, Barbarik, Karna. Arguably you can put one above another but one warrior who become determining factor of the Mahabharata war was the Abhimanyu.

The One Abhimanyu – Synopsis

The One – Abhimanyu is an epic tale of heroism and bravery that never gets old. This epic saga is presented with beautiful illustrations that shake you with the heinous actions that were taken that day to end the life of a young warrior. Abhimanyu played such a role in the war that he was even included in our schoolbooks. The war of Mahabharata was fought for straight 18 days but the day that decided the fate of the Kauravas was the 13th day of the war.

What happened on the 13th day of the Mahabharata? – A Short Summary

Karuravas came up with the deadliest formation of army on the 13th day. In the absence of Arjuna. Only Abhimanyu knew to penetrate the chakravayuh. Chakaravyuh, a type of army formation that could have been penetrated only by three persons in that war – Drona, Arjuna and Abhimanyu. Abhimanyu knew how to get in to this chakravayuh but did not know how to come out of it. He was supposed to be followed by Bheema and Yudhisthira in the Chakravayuh but they couldn’t.

Abhimanyu went to the core and got struck there and got killed by karna, jayadratha, duryodhana and all other so called mightly warriors fighting from Kauravas army. They broke a rule that day – to fight one to one battle set by none other than bheesma. Those cowards didn’t stop even when Abhimanyu was down.

The foundation of dharma got dismantled that day and so everybody started doing whatever they wanted. For example, Drauna, the battle guru was the worst broker of rule from both sides. He killed thousands of foot soldiers while the rule was that astras can be used only on chariot warriors.

The One Abhimanyu – Story, pace, grip, and impact

The One Abhimanyu presents nothing different than the story that you already know. We are surprised that even when the artwork was top notch on most of the parts, it could not connect us to the story that can bring tears in your eyes even listening to documentaries on this epic tale. So you can say there are shortcomings in the story side.

Though the story connects well in the beginning, but it kept losing the momentum from time to time. We believe the sole reason for this is the loose writing.

  • Grip – 4
  • Impact – 4

The One Abhimanyu – Dialogues, Letters and Graphic Design

  • In some parts dialogues were impactful but we think it has the greater responsibility for the story as it was not a work of fiction. Only dialogues could have raised the standard and impact of the storytelling. Dialogues – 6
  • The letters are good. We did not have any trouble reading speech bubbles in-correct order. Letters – 10
  • Graphic Design – 9

The One Abhimanyu – Inside Art – 9

After reading the one – Abhimanyu, we were confused by the end about what we feel about the inside art. The illustrations are top notch, but we could not connect to the story telling by its art too. We think the sequential art of the book could not justify the story as well.

The One Abhimanyu – Cover Art – 9

The One – Abhimanyu has 2 cover variants. Both have their own good and bad points. We think that colours could not do justice to the cover art and inside art as well.

  1. Abhimanyu naam hai Mahabharat ke ek aise yoddha ka jo Kauravon key chakravyuh ko bhedna jaanta tha par us se nikalna nahin.
Abhimanyu dhanurdhar Arjun aur Subhadra ka putra tha.

Jab Arjun Subhadra ko chakravyuh bhedne k baarey mey bata raha tha toh Subhadra ke garbh mey Abhimanyu bhi unki baat sun raha tha lekin wo chakravyuh se kaise nikalte hain ye sun nai paaya kyunki
uski Maata Subhadra ko neend aa gayi thi.

Veer Abhimanyu ek se badkar ek yoddhaon ko paraast kar ke agey badta chala jaa raha tha par wo Kauravon ke kutil shadyantra mey phans kar veergati ko prapt hua.

THE ONE – ABHIMANYU ka artwork Dheeraj Verma dwaara banaya gaya hai jo ki kisi parichay k mohtaaj nahin hain. Unhone Raj comics
mey kaafi kaam kiya hua hai jahaan we bheriya character ki comics ka artwork sambhaaltey they. Isliye laajmi hai ki unke fans is
kitaab ko jaroor pdna aur nihaarna chahenge.

Upar is kitaab ki samiksha di gayi hai. Ab paathak is kitaab ko pdh kar hi bata payenge ki overall unhein ye rachna kaisi lagi?

  2. Dhreej Verma brought his A game in this graphic novel based on a part of Mahabharata, heavily focusing on the protagonist, son of Arjun, Abhimanyu. This book tries to explore the story of the brave and mighty Abhimanyu once again. The scenes of the battle field were awesomely portrayed. But comic book adaptations on Indian Myths and Legends is becoming very boring and repetitive these days, and readers in general are sick and tired of creators unable to CREATE new content, and keep cashing on the existing rich mythological stories that we all know. This is a pathetic situation actually, and moreover, The One Abhimanyu showcases terrible and utterly unenjoyable storytelling, and even the gorgeous artwork was not a good enough saving grace.
